Mobile application is a way to make it safe, fast, user friendly and simple for hospital employees to fill out the AHRQ Common Formats Forms as part of a PSO's Patient Safety Evaluation System. Patient lives will be saved and the costs of medical errors reduced when this communication is made in real-time at the bedside with decision makers in quality risk and patient safety. Purple Button app allows the use of either the smart phone in the pocket if there is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy in place, or the use of a health system secure device such as the Motorola MC40 HC or the MioCARE A-105 tablet designed for healthcare.
The App displays 9 categories required in the Common Formats, grouped as incident, unsafe condition or near miss. Clinicians have the choice of submitting a full report, an anonymous report, or report to their own group only and not to the hospital. All this takes place in 60 -90 seconds.
When a clinician clicks on one of the event categories, it opens up a page to scan a patient's bar-coded wrist band and auto-populate the patient's information on the form. The same goes for medications, medical devices, blood and blood products. The Purple Button App will connect agnostically with any EMR (electronic medical record).
Clinicians can write a short description about the event, voice record a description and take a picture or a video of the condition to accompany the descriptions, store and send them encrypted to a predefined destination in the cloud. Purple Button App will extract the required PHI from the CCD or C-CDA documents and auto-populate the rest of the Common Formats forms at the click of a button.
